And now to the shows! Day two started off pretty much right into it, once everyone got in and settled we moved along right into the first collection of the night! I’ve placed the photos in the order of which they presented so it’s kind like you guys were THERE even if you weren’t… not really at all like that but we’re gonna go with it. Ohh but the playlist was killin it whoever that disk jockey was… he played all the jammy jams! Can I put music on here? Well, a little imagination can go a long way y’all!
The collections were a mixture of modern industry trends as well as African cultural textiles and silhouettes. Even though they didn’t necessarily all read AFRICA (there were no flies in the room BTW) they all had African relation being that they were either designed by, created for, or manufactured with ties to African roots. Keep in mind, African styles aren’t exactly in industry demand as of yet in the U.S. at least, so building a brand aesthetically developed incorporating African tradition influences is a bit more difficult to expand with… though in my opinion admirable and necessary. Even the more contemporary brands like Della who manufacture all of their products in Ghana will speak of their struggle branching out and getting into major retailers because it’s a constant question of “quality” being that the items came from Africa. Which is shocking how we so easily order products from China which we constantly speak about the terrors and issues involving that… whet?…. but I digress… The collections were beautiful, they were “socially responsible” and filled the room with joy-full pride and nostalgia.
Afterwards we had yet another lovely networking mixer, congratulated/thanked all the designers, complemented each other on our wardrobe decisions, and called it a night! Onto day three Queens/Kings!
