After a long winded [delayed] flight, NYFW finally was upon us!!! On February 10th, a day late; cause apparently fashion week wouldn’t be fashion week without a snow storm, so we we’re right on schedule… For being fashionably late, of course.
The first shows I attended were for the Fashion Gallery held in the ballroom at the Stewart Hotel in Midtown Manhattan featuring a collective of both established and up and coming designers. The ambiance was lovely, walking into the intimate space with chandeliers hanging from the ceilings…. If there was ever a time to use the word quaint, I would describe the space as just that, mind you I’ve never in my life used the word quaint so I think that speaks in volumes.
The first showing started at 4pm Friday. The shows went all through Sunday, featuring different designers at different times throughout each day, which worked as both an advantage and a hinderance… while the time lapse provided an opportunity to explore other NYFW events, it also enabled challenges to get back to the venue in time to view the rest of the collections. So, with that being said I didn’t quite see all the shows (sad face) however, the ones I did have the chance to experience were definitely worth while.
The collections I saw were from Norwegian designer Pernille Fristad (Kepaza), Jimmy Burner whom I’m not sure where originates from, American designers James Chapman and Jacob McIntyre, Norwegian designer Christine Andresen (Antidote), and Colombian designer Lily Montes (Antinoo)…. Let me just say, Norway has some seriously badass creative people comin out of there! Much like one of my now new favorites Malin Molden who I included a few shots of, even though I missed the actual presentation. (again, sad face)
All in all it was an excellent represenation of cultures, styles, and even a lil appropriately timed political sentiment to add into the mix! Aside from the whole commuting to and fro thing… The organization was remarkable. The designers not featured in the photos but also presented and were waaaay dopey dope dope were: Layana Aguilar, Mondo Guerra*, Avid Swim, Naldo Montanez, Adam Dalton Blake*, Curtis Eliot, M&T New York, Owana Lima, Katya Leonovich, Malan Breton, Keminevar, Christopher Palu*, Kita Griffin, Another Place, Black Rat, Jeilyne Santana, S’MM, Line Skjervheim Gilhuus, Lisa Anker-Rasch Storm*, and Heggy Gonzalez.
Check em out along with some of the looks down below and get ya self a taste of some of the magic! Thank you and a thousand kisses to FGNYFW for having me, it was absolutely fabulous! Many congratulations on your continued success!
